what is metal detecting?

Metal detecting is a fun outdoor hobby where you use a metal detector to find objects hidden underground.

People often discover:

• Coins
• Jewelry
• Historic relics
• Lost personal items

It’s part treasure hunt, part history lesson, and part outdoor adventure.

Featured finds

jan b

After digging plenty of “53” signals that turned out to be cans, Jan B. almost ignored another one… but something told him not to. Good thing he didn’t because he discovered something special. Out came my first gold, a stunning Merovingian fibula! He said, “Safe to say, I’ll never skip a “can clip” signal again.

Drew W

Drew W. was detecting a spot after a ton of rain came through, which means metal detecting gold. He was using his trusty AT Pro when he found his first-ever seated coin. It was a 1876 seated Liberty Quarter! He says, “This find made my year so far.”

mike h

While relic hunting a private horse farm near Falmouth and Fredericksburg, Virginia, the finds were already good with bullets and relics coming up. Then a strong signal about 8 inches down revealed something special for Mike. He discovered a pre-Civil War sword belt plate found with his AT Max!

He said, “It took a while for my heart to slow down after that one. At 73 years old, I’m still out there swinging every chance I get. Growing up in the heart of so much history makes every hunt feel like stepping back in time.”

What we do

We Find Treasure

reuniting lost Valuables

There’s nothing quite like returning a lost item to its owner. From wedding rings to family heirlooms, our members have helped reunite people with items they thought were gone forever. It’s more than just finding metal—it’s restoring memories, telling stories, and making someone’s day in a way they’ll never forget.

Treasure Hunting & Discovery

Every signal could be something incredible. Whether it’s an old coin, a forgotten relic, or something completely unexpected, metal detecting is real-life treasure hunting. Our club members regularly uncover pieces of history hiding just beneath the surface—proof that amazing discoveries are still out there waiting to be found.

Exploring Local History

Metal detecting brings history to life in a hands-on way. From old homesteads to public gathering places, we explore areas where people once lived, worked, and played. Each find connects us to the past and helps preserve pieces of local history that might otherwise be lost forever.

Learning & Sharing Together

Whether you’re brand new or experienced, there’s always something to learn. Our club is built on sharing knowledge, helping beginners get started, and celebrating each other’s finds. It’s a welcoming community where questions are encouraged, skills grow quickly, and friendships are built along the way.

What Drives Us

The Buckeye Searcher Mission

Our mission is to create a welcoming community of detectorists dedicated to learning, sharing, and exploring—while preserving history, respecting the land, and helping others recover what they thought was lost forever.
