About Buckeye SearchersSince 1982
Uncovering the Stories Beneath Our Feet.
Our History
Since its founding in June of 1982, the Buckeye Searchers Association of Northeast Ohio has brought together people who share a passion for metal detecting, history, and helping others. What began as a local club has grown into a group with a wide reach, including searches across the United States and internationally. Members take pride not only in discovering pieces of the past, but in making a difference today—helping reunite families with lost heirlooms, assisting individuals in recovering valuable items, and supporting local law enforcement with specialized search efforts. The Buckeye Searchers remain rooted in community, driven by curiosity, and united by a shared purpose.
What Drives Us
Our Mission
Metal detecting is more than just a hobby—it’s a unique blend of history, exploration, and discovery. With a metal detector in hand, everyday places like parks, fields, beaches, and even backyards can reveal hidden stories buried just beneath the surface. Coins, relics, jewelry, and long-lost personal items all have the potential to be uncovered, each with its own story to tell.
At its core, metal detecting is about curiosity and connection. Some search for historical artifacts that offer a glimpse into the past, while others enjoy the excitement of the hunt or the satisfaction of recovering something meaningful. One of the most rewarding aspects of the hobby is helping others—many detectorists take pride in reuniting people with lost valuables like wedding rings, family heirlooms, and keepsakes that hold deep personal value.
Modern technology has made metal detecting more accessible than ever. Today’s detectors can identify different types of metal, filter out unwanted items, and pinpoint targets with impressive accuracy. But success in the field still comes down to patience, practice, and respect—for the land, for property owners, and for local laws and history.
Responsible metal detecting is essential. Ethical detectorists always seek permission before searching private property, follow local regulations, fill in any holes they dig, and aim to leave areas better than they found them. Many also take an active role in preserving history by documenting finds or working with local organizations when significant items are discovered.
Whether you’re interested in uncovering pieces of the past, enjoying the outdoors, or helping someone recover a lost treasure, metal detecting offers something for everyone. It’s a hobby that combines adventure, learning, and community—and every signal could be the start of a new story.
